PROUDLY ON THE WEB SINCE 1997 serving fans of thoroughbred racing.

Breeding Winners is a comprehensive study of winning performances by foals of a sire and broodmare sire (damsire) at the major racing venues in the United States. The theory is that horses with similar breeding will win races under similar conditions. Understanding as many variables as possible that produced a winning performance will yield valuable information towards predicting the true contenders in a given race.

My name is Andy Schnell and I began gathering data on winning performances in May 1995 after being a frustrated handicapper for 20 years. I now know that pedigree handicapping was my true calling and it has helped me become a much better handicapper. I believe knowing one sire gets 30% of his young maiden winners on dirt at 6.5 to 7 furlongs while another gets only 8% is a HUGE help.

I think knowing one sire gets 55% of his young maiden dirt winners when the purse is greater than $40,000 while another gets only 15% is a HUGE help. When it comes to class having the same type of percentages for the broodmare sire has proven to be a great tool. Breeding Winners is the only source for broodmare sire statistics.

I believe knowing that one sire gets his young dirt maidens to win off a layoff of greater than 60 days at twice the average is very helpful compared to those that have yet to produce such a winner.

To my surprise my sire and broodmare sire stats are also very helpful in ALL races and not just maiden races. I could not imagine handcapping without my Race Reports where I put all these stats together in an easy-to-read format so at a quick glance I can compare one entrant to the others. I also have a trainer report for each track. Trainer stats are calculated in the same way as the sire and broodmare sire. Please click on the link on the Reports page for "Understanding Sire Statistics" for a full explanation of my stats.

Breeding Winners has always been free since I wanted to be sure my stats were a useful handicapping tool. I now know that they are and therefore have asked (beginning in late March 2009) for donations. My programmer has done hundreds if not a few thousand hours of work since 1997 with no monetary compensation. He deserves about a million dollars in my estimation for his incredible work. I am not the easiest to work for as I demand everything has to be correct.

I thank my family and friends for allowing me to spend so much time on this passion of mine. All of the Breeding Winners logos are the work of my good friend Dan Weltsch. Please visit www.danweltsch.com to view his other artwork.

I wish I could generate enough funds through donations alone, just as your Public Television does but that is completely up to you. If you want to keep this website 'free', then please make a donation.

EARN BONUS MONEY for being an original supporter of Breeding Winners. All donations made before I begin to charge for my work will get a 50% bonus so a $50 contribution will be credited with $75.

Please click on the Donate button to make a donation using PayPal. Paypal will provide me with your name and email address so IF the day comes that I need to charge for my stats and selections, I can credit your account with the full amount (plus a 50% bonus) of all contributions that you have made. If you prefer you may send a contribution by snail mail to Breeding Winners, P.O. Box 974, Southington, CT 06489. I will never share your email address with anyone else. I thank you in advance for supporting my work.
